Antoine Sibierski broke Derby hearts by firing home a late winner to give Wigan their first away win of the season and keep the club on course for Premier League survival. Sibierski scored the only goal of this relegation battle at Pride Park in the 82nd minute, ending a personal five-month drought and just 43 seconds after his arrival as a substitute. Under Steve Bruce, the Latics have taken 12 points from a possible 24 since his arrival, in contrast to Rams boss Paul Jewell who has managed just one from his eight games in charge

Manchester United finally hit the goal trail at Old Trafford and marched to the Premier League summit with a 4-0 blitz of Wigan. After drawing yet another first-half blank, United turned on the power in the second period as Carlos Tevez opened their account before Cristiano Ronaldo's double and Wayne Rooney's late header finished off the Latics. It was just the kind of result Sir Alex Ferguson demanded after a barren run by United's prolific scoring standards and extended their winning league run to six matches, during which time they have not conceded a single goal.

Yossi Benayoun was the match winner in a hard-fought encounter between Wigan and Liverpool at the JJB Stadium. The Israeli midfielder came off the bench to show great composure to net Liverpool's 75th minute winner in a 1-0 victory. Shots at goal were at a premium throughout the 90 minutes, but Wigan will feel aggrieved to have lost the encounter.

James Harper's last-gasp winner moved a previously out-of-sorts Reading out of the Premier League's bottom three. But Owen headed home Obafemi Martins' cross at the near post to score Newcastle's first Premier League goal at home since 10 February.

A much-changed Wigan crashed out of the Carling Cup with Northern Ireland international Stuart Elliott hitting the shock winner after 31 minutes.
